About

Lauren Maxwell is a writer, storyteller, theater performer, and now playwright. Originally hailing from America. Lauren comes from a Jewish family who’ve shaped her dark sense of humour and love of storytelling. She’s lived in the Netherlands for 9 years and has 30 years of on-and-off theatre experience ranging from musical theatre to improvisational comedy and drama, storytelling, and burlesque.

In 2020, she attended the Professional Storytelling School at Mezrab, in Amsterdam. In 2023, she was asked to participate in a story jam – an incubation lab for storytelling and new media in the Netherlands Film Festival. She has also written a commercial and starred in one. Most recently, her first play has been performed by Downstage Left in BadhuisTheater in Amsterdam, and she has been accepted into the Edinburgh Free Fringe for the 2024 selection.

Lauren can be regularly seen at the Mezrab, or in musical productions with Happily Ever After at Zonnehuis Theater, or at Boom Chicago for burlesque performances in Amsterdam. Whether it be through writing or performing, what drives Lauren is the “what if?” behind every story and the exploration that unfolds.
